We understand that the abundance of products and services can leave your practice feeling overwhelmed.
To help offset the confusion, we have equipped our staff to help with your educational needs and to help streamline your practice to be sure everyone has the highest level of understanding of all products and services.

The main purpose of these events and the goal of Walman is to help you succeed within your practice. Remember, every triumph, not matter how big or small, is a triumph to Walman as well and we are here to help make your entire staff experts on all things optical.

Dispensing Academy is a week-long educational program we hold quarterly in St. Paul,
MN. Our mission is to provide an open learning environment with time for skill and
development, The Dispensing Academy will give you newer opticians a fantastic foundation
of optical knowledge and skills to take advantage of immediately.
Education topics include:
- General Optics
- Frame Alignment
- Lensometry
- Dispensing procedure
- Lens Types and Styles
This is an extensive educational program and some tuition fees and travel fees will apply. Breakfast is included in hotel accommodations and we do provide lunch during the training.

ABO Certification is not a requirement in all states, but it does offer professional distinction and official registration of your achievement. Occasionally, we do offer an ABO Prep class to help you achieve your ABO certification. If you are planning to take the ABO exam, this class is a must!

Jumpstart training modules offer education for everyone from the new optician just starting a career in optical to the seasoned professional in need of a little refresher.
Each Jumpstart training module completed is worth 4 ABO credits. No need to take your staff out of the office for the day for ABO courses. These courses are available online and they allow your staff to take them at their own pace, you are able to stop the training at any time and return to complete it later.
To receive the ABO credits simply take the test at the end of each module, print off the completion certificate and mail it to the address printed on the certificate.

1: Jumpstart Your Office
This training offers an introduction to working in an optical environment and a
firm foundation of optical knowledge to provide the best patient care.

2: Progressive Lens Technology
This training provides in-depth information about progressive lens technology and
the benefits of dispensing premium progressive lenses and how they affect a patient’s
vision.

3: Identifying Visual Needs
This training will educate staff members on how to increase practice sales by implementing
a total vision care approach and successfully recommending supplemental eyewear.
When completed, staff members will fully understand how supplemental eyewear helps
to better satisfy patient vision requirements.

4: Identifying Frame Limitations
This training is designed to illustrate various aspects of a patient’s prescription
and how their prescription may affect their frame choice. Training topics include
detailed information on frame and facial measurements, frame materials and styles,
how to deal with challenging prescriptions and strategies for dispensing new eyewear.

5: Warranties and Remakes
This training provides training for optical professionals on how poor warranty and
remake policies can damage a practice. Learn what is necessary in creating successful
policies for your practice to increase your patient’s satisfaction and confidence
in their eyewear purchase.

6: Understanding Digital Lenses
This training provides in-depth information on digital lens technology and how it
differs from conventional lens technology and processing. It also includes, a basic
understanding of digital lenses including design, processing, pricing and dispensing
recommendations.
Digital Surfacing - The Next Generation of Lenses
This course evalutes traditional sufacing methods and compares the technology used to that of new hi-tech surfacing capabilities. In this course the audience will learn terminology used in digital suracing, the different methods of digital surfacing, the benefits to digital lenses, differences in designs, and differences by means of progressive placement.
Digital Surfacing - The Journey Continues
This course provides an in depth look at “True Free Form” lenses. In this course the audience will learn the differences between fixed and variable cooridors and obtain elevated knowledge of when to fit what. The intent of this course is to provide opticians with enhanced sales, fitting, and lens selection skills. We will also evaluate new measurments such as wrap, vertex distance, panto/ retro tilt, and seg heights. This course can be seen as a “Part II” to “The Next Generation of Lenses”
SunXtreme - Educational Program
This course provides detailed insight to sunwear lenses and the sunglass market and highlights the protection premium sunwear has to offer. We will cover, in depth, the difference types of UV and the diseases associates with sun damange and harmgul effects of UV. We also discuss the importance od HEV and how to protect your patients as well as the various eye diseases and conditions associated with UVA, UVB, HEV, and sun damage.
Essilor and Varilux Product Trainings
